Urban

URBAN brings together outdoor, urban and street photographs shaped by observation, public space and the everyday edges of the built environment.

  • Black-and-white urban photograph of a heavily pruned street tree beside a curved pavement, with wire mesh around its trunk, a mailbox marked 24, utility poles and overhead wires, suburban houses, hedges and bins.
    Clipped
  • Dark early-morning photograph of Auckland’s skyline and Sky Tower in silhouette across harbour water. Heavy black cloud fills the upper sky, while warm glowing light breaks through lower clouds and reflects softly across the water and foreshore.

  • Close colour photograph of small round green leaves and reddish stems growing in a dark gap between two green-painted wooden surfaces. Sunlight highlights parts of the foliage, while cracked paint, wood grain and tiny pale flowers remain visible.
    Green Light
  • Square black-and-white photograph of dense ivy spilling over the corner of a wooden fence and narrowing a shadowed path. Clipped trees, a lightly clouded sky and overhead power lines appear behind the sunlit foliage.
    Cornered

  • Black-and-white overhead photograph of a flattened ALBA grapefruit tequila can on rough dark asphalt, with the horse-and-rider logo, product lettering, opened tab and fine droplets still visible.
    Alba

  • Vertical black-and-white photograph of a worn concrete wall covered with repeated portrait flyers, protest notices, torn paper and broad painted lettering. Scratches and faint figure drawings mark the exposed surface above.

Urbis

Black-and-white overhead photograph of a flattened drink can lying diagonally on rough soil and stones, with large fragmented “LIVE” lettering, deep creases, dirt stains and grass pressing around its torn upper edge.

Crush

Black and white overhead photo of a dead bird on pavement, surrounded by fallen white blossom and twigs, with a curved twig resembling a crescent moon nearby.

Remains

Darkened colour photograph showing a marina channel, dense yacht masts and moored boats beneath heavy blue-black cloud, with the Auckland Harbour Bridge at left and a narrow band of dawn light on the horizon.
